Mental Illness Warning Signs

Mental Health is a part of everyone’s well-being, and mental health conditions are common. In fact, roughly half of us will experience one in our lifetime. Getting the right support can make all the difference. Learning to recognize the signs leads to more people getting the help they need. Here are some common warning signs of a mental health condition, from the National Alliance on Mental Illness:

* Feeling very sad, exhausted, or unmotivated, and/or crying often for more than two weeks

* Trying to harm or kill oneself or making plans to severly risky risky behaviors that seem out of control, with potential to harm self or others

* Sudden overwhelming fear; accompanied by racing heart and/or fast breathing

* Repeated use of drugs or alcohol

* Dramatic mood swings

* Severe changes in behavior; personality or sleeping habits
